Gary Leonard Oldman (born 21 March 1958) is an English actor, voice actor, and musician. A member of the 1980s Brit Pack, Oldman came to prominence in the mid-to-late 1980s with a string of performances that prompted pre-eminent film critic, Roger Ebert, to describe him as "the best young British actor around". He portrayed Sid Vicious in his acclaimed first leading role in Sid and Nancy (1986), and earned a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Actor for his second real-life portrayal, Joe Orton, in Prick Up Your Ears (1987). Oldman's role in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (1990) brought him an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Actor, while his performance as a violent gunman for an Irish American gang in State of Grace (1990) earned him greater notice and critical acclaim in the United States. His international breakthrough came with his portrayals of Lee Harvey Oswald in JFK (1991), and Count Dracula in Dracula (1992)—the latter bringing him the Saturn Award for Best Actor. Oldman also attracted media attention for his marriage to actress Uma Thurman in the early 1990s. He went on to play the villain of a number of popular films in the 1990s, including True Romance (1993), Léon (1994) and The Fifth Element (1997). His performance as a zealous Republican congressman in The Contender (2000) earned him Screen Actors Guild- and Independent Spirit Award nominations in the Best Supporting Actor category.

After calculating and publishing the results of the votes for the recent challenge, some suspicious irregularities were noticed. Upon further investigation, it appears that an attempt may have been made to rig the contest by one specific member, using multiple false identities and/or encouraging non-artist friends and family to sign up to Wittygraphy with the sole purpose of voting for that member. These votes have been disqualified, and the scores recalculated. As a result, the bronze medal now goes to cakBOY01, and not Ryan Nore, as was previously announced.

You encourage people to share with their friends & family. Share on FaceBook, share on Twitter, share all over the place. So an artist shares and now, just because these friends he shared with responded, you disqualify him and basically call him a cheat?? This is as good as slander! Shame on you.... I have the strong urge to do more about this, but for now I had to at least say this much.

Sorry, Magnus, I'm not understanding your logic. Are you honestly saying that you think it's acceptable for half a dozen people, who are friends and family of one particular member, to all join up within a space of 90 minutes, and only use their membership to vote for that said member (all miraculously thinking his was the best caricature, of course), and thereby managing to get him a high enough score to come third? You don't consider that even slightly dishonest? Really? If Ryan colluded in this action then, yes, he is indeed a cheat; If the rest of you all got together and decided to do this without his knowledge, then you - his friends and family - are collectively to blame for the resulting mess.If there is an shame to be laid on anybody, it is in fact on you and your comrades, either for allowing yourself to be convinced to take part in such a underhand scheme, or for willingly doing so.

I do not know what has passed, I'm not into voting and I can not appreciate, but I'd like to tell everyone who participates, the important thing is not to win!. Yeah, it sounds as always, but the real important that people know your work and hobnob with artists like there is here .... the example is Ernesto Priego, a stayed many times in the fourth and won, finally! tries whenever possible and strive as we all do .... but I'm glad for the win than my own ... in order! I encourage everyone, not cheating, not worth it ...

I have a question. If I, my family and friends (5 to 6 people) choose to all vote for the same 3 people in the next contest (Marie Curie) you will disqualify them? Regardless of the fact that they didn't ask us to do so and you will just tell them that they can thank us for having supported them?David, very nicely said. In the e-mail I wrote Wittygraphy, when it was brought to my attention what had happened. I did my best to explain and that it wasn't a matter of of winning or losing. It was a matter of the way they handled things. They could have contacted me, giving me the benefit of the doubt. Instead, they just reacted assuming they knew what had happened. And contrary to my taking these steps to clear up the matter in private and having been informed that I would be "contacted by the Contest Committee" they again mishandled things by publicly calling me a cheater to all the artists here. That is just not right. They have mishandled this from beginning to end and they will not admit it nor even entertain the idea that maybe they were wrong.Again, it isn't about winning, it is about having me and my name dragged through the mud on an assumption. I always liked the saying "Never assume. When you assume, you make an A S S out of U and M E."

Ryan, I will not enter into discussions with you, do not pretend to give lessons or prejudice ... The question is if you want to win the votes of family and friends, I'm not! because you know that those votes are not objective ... no money, make their friends and learn from the work of others, this must be your hypothetical victory ...

I think you do not understand. My opening question was directed to em..._ as it was his explanation that it does not matter if I asked my family and friends to vote for me or they did it on their own free will.I am not trying to discuss, or justify anything. I neither cared about winning nor did I expect to win. My only problem is that I was accused, punished and exposed for a crime that nobody cared if I actually committed.

I'm a very recent member of this group & have been blown away by the standard of the caricature art. I entered the competition for the fun of it, not expecting or indeed deserving to win anything (I voted for the number 2 entry, I think it's stunning). I'm doing this stuff because I really enjoy drawing and I'm learning from the rest of the members. If it's true that people arrange block votes just to come top of the pile then I think it's really sad, I also think the moderators ought to be careful about how they deal with these issues. I didn't get any votes but I have learned some new techniques - so thank you for the prize of free art lessons!
Heidi WittyAdmin, about 1 year ago
@Ryan, to answer your question on voting, there is only ONE rule: look at all entries objectively vote for the most deserving entries. Simple and fair. We have done over 30 contests successfully w/ this basic rule. All your what if hypothetical cases are just made up to circumvent the rule above. Would you agree it's different if your 5 friends voted for popular entries that received dozen of votes from other members versus voting for entries that only received their 5 votes?
Please excuse my avoiding to answer your question as it is a leading question. Instead I will again stress the fact that this isn't about winning or even being mentioned as being "close to making the top 3". It is about how it was handled. The way was harmful to me and my name. You all acted with out any concern to the truth. I made the first steps to try and clear things up and even still it was disregarded and circumvented to publicly announce my alleged "misdeeds". It was just wrong to do.
On second thought, I'll answer your hypothetical with another possible hypothetical. Instead of my 5 friends voting for someone that got a dozen votes, let's say they voted for someone other than me that didn't get any other votes than theirs. What then?
em..._, about 1 year ago
Ryan,You seem to working on the presumption that we disqualified the votes without knowing who the mystery voters were, and that your message to Heidi was in some way clarifying the matter for us.On the contrary, we had already figured out that the identities belonged to your wife, daughter (two different identities), mother in law and two friends/colleagues. That all these identities all signed up to Wittygraphy within a 90 minute period would be pretty good indicator that it was a deliberate act.The only things we don't know for sure are whether it was really them individually joining individually, or one person using their email addresses and names; and, if it was really them, whether it was done with or without your involvement. If you look at the actual wording of the announcement, you'll see that it says "an attempt may have been made to rig the contest by one specific member" - I had allowed for the possibility that it had been done without your knowledge.Anyway, the exact details of who and why and who knew are completely irrelevant. The facts are that a deliberate attempt to distort the voting WAS made, and when that was discovered it was rectified.
Please em..._, you didn't figure it out prior to my contacting you, you thought it was only me and that I had created false identities. I provided you references proving the existence of the actual people.Plus, you said:"it appears that an attempt may have been made to rig the contest by one
specific member, using multiple false identities and/or encouraging
non-artist friends and family to sign up to Wittygraphy with the sole
purpose of voting for that member." That does not leave the possibility that they acted without my encouragement. It says I either created fake members or encouraged real people. And you said all of this after I had contacted you. You had no intent of contacting me as it was told to me by Heidi in an e-mail that you would do so.You assume entirely too much. Again a quote from you:"encouraging
non-artist friends and family to sign up" So, if you truly knew anything prior to my having told you about these people you would have known something about them and would have not been able to say what you did. To name a few, my wife is an artist as you would have noticed if you had went to the URL I had provided. My "two friends/colleagues" are art critics for a couple of periodicals here in Austria. One of which dedicates their articles in their blog (to which I also provided a URL) to only art related subjects.Look, as I already said, I do not think any of you will admit wrong doing in the handling of this situation. However, I cannot allow this to just go by without a word. It was wrong and I won't just quietly stand by as you all dirty me and my name.
